As Chardonnay has become the most widely planted variety in Sonoma County we wanted to take the opportunity to make our own unique and compelling Chardonnay that supports our mission to share the heart of Sonoma County. Our Chardonnay captures everything we love about the variety’s expression in Sonoma County. We have added in a small portion of our estate-grown Vermentino for a uniquely Seghesio twist, and set out to make a Chardonnay that is bright and focused with a kiss of oak and the pure, intense fruit characteristic of our signature style.

Aglianico, a historic grape dating to the seventh century BC, is prized by winemakers for its concentrated, vibrant, black fruit. One of the best kept secrets of its native Italy, Aglianico enjoys the sunshine of the Campania and Basilicata regions of Southern Italy. Seghesio Family Vineyards farms a small amount of this Noble varietal on the hillside of our Sisters vineyard on the Home Ranch in Alexander Valley. There, the warm, sun-filled days parallel that of its home in Italy.

David’s Heritage Red was born as an offspring to Marian’s Reserve, which longtime Seghesio fans know as an elegant red blend honoring Fay Marian, wife to third generation winemaker Ed Seghesio. This new blend honors the youngest of their children, David Seghesio, who joined the family business in 1983 as a master technician. In the realm of mechanics he was a Renaissance man, displaying skills from engineering to restoration that always left us in awe. David passed away in 2017 and with this wine we honor the legacy of his ambition and dauntless ingenuity.

Recently, the Seghesio Family began an extensive vineyard replanting program that sought to grow intriguing varieties in the most suitable locations. Vermentino was planted in 2008, with 2011 marking the first vintage of this wine. While Vermentino’s exact origins are unclear, it thrives along the Mediterranean coasts of France and Italy, and is well suited to the Russian River Valley’s marine influenced climate.
